Measurement

Measurement starts with an honest question

The minimal measurement release

The 11 August session verified the site in Search Console, created and linked a Google Analytics web stream, and released a minimal v7 update. The public homepage received the measurement tag and an aggregate-traffic disclosure.

V7 was copied forward from v6. The release was deliberately narrower than a website redesign: it established basic measurement on the existing public page.

Collection does not define success

The session left the website’s primary outcome unresolved. Agreement on that outcome was a next action, to be followed by separately approved event implementation and testing. Installing an analytics tag therefore did not establish a finished conversion-measurement system.

This is an important distinction for a small publishing site. Visits can describe exposure, but they do not automatically tell us whether a reader found the right contact route, understood the purpose of the house or completed another meaningful task. Choosing an outcome is an editorial and operational decision before it becomes an instrumentation decision.

Match the claim to the implementation

The supported historical claim is that basic public-site measurement and its disclosure were released. It is not that the site already had a settled optimisation programme or that private research activity was being measured.

Later design work needs to preserve this boundary. Measurement should be attached to an explicit question and an appropriate public surface, with the disclosure kept in step with what is actually implemented.

Evidence for this entry

This account is grounded in project records. Internal research and operational files are not published here.
